Airplane Décor – Tailwinds is pleased to offer this fabulous reproduction of the Piper J-3 Cub wooden propeller. The beloved Piper Cub aircraft is often referred to as the Model T of aviation since it was fairly simple to fly and very affordable. This replica propeller used on the Piper Cub plane is skillfully crafted in the U.S. from laminated hardwood. The Piper Cub Propeller displays the traditional bright red tips with the legendary icon of a bear cub holding a “cub” sign. Birch hardwood is sanded multiple times to provide a smooth, silky surface. The applied finish is a clear, high gloss sealer that highlights the beauty of the laminated wood. Although this Piper Cub Propeller is a scale model of the original it is not airworthy.
The Piper J-3 Cub aircraft is a light aircraft that was designed as a flight trainer. It was manufactured by Piper Aircraft with tandem seating (fore and aft) between the years 1937 to 1947. One of the reasons that the Cub became so popular was that the starting price was only $995.00. During World War II the J-3 Cub became the primary trainer aircraft for new pilots. By the end of the war it is estimated that 80% of all U.S. military pilots had received their initial flight training in a Cub. In the U.S. alone, 19,888 Piper cubs were built.
