Description
Sopwith Camel Model airplanes: This replica Sopwith Camel Model Plane was created with stunning, authentic detail. Like the original, this Sopwith Camel Airplane Model is crafted with silk canvas stretched over a wooden frame. The airplane model is painted with historically correct colors, and has spoke wire wheels with laminated propeller. The cockpit includes control wheel, instrument panel and seat. True to the original, there is even a mounted gun sight, machine guns, windshield and rotary-like engine.

The first Sopwith Camel was built in 1916 and approximately 6,000 Camels were produced. Each was armed with two machine guns that were surrounded with a fairing creating a hump. It was this hump that led to the aircraft acquiring the name Camel. The plane was difficult to fly and intentionally built unstable to make it easier to change direction in combat. To fly straight the pilot had to constantly compensate, but it made it more agile. This agility in aerial combat made the Sopwith Camel a powerful fighting machine. The Sopwith Camels are credited with 1,294 downed enemy aircraft in World War I.

Place this fantastic model on a bookshelf to be admired or hang from the ceiling. Click here to view our replica Sopwith Camel propeller.

Beautiful Sopwith
May 18, 2014
I never was good at putting together a model kit airplane, so when I saw this as a model, I went for it. I am glad that I did because this is a beautiful model -- great colors and perfect to scale. I looked everywhere for this model and Tailwinds was the only place I found it. This model has so many intricate details going for it, if you are looking for a vintage model like this Sopwith Camel, look no further.
