This handsomely framed photograph of the SR-71A Blackbird Airplane is a great gift for a pilot or airplane enthusiast. Produced in the U.S.A., it comes with a data plate signed by chief test pilot Robert “Bob” Gilliland.
Nancy’s Notes: I enjoy airplane memorabilia with aviation history, and particularly the SR-71 Blackbird spy plane. Bob Gilliland’s experience piloting the SR-71 is amazing. He was the first pilot to fly this stunning bird on December 22, 1964. He actually flew, the then SR.70 number 950, for over an hour clocking speeds over 1,000 mph. Bob went on to pilot each Blackbird aircraft as it became operational, and eventually logged more supersonic flight time as a test pilot above Mach 2 and Mach 3 than any other pilot. On a personal note, I had the honor of calling one of the 86 trained pilots to fly the famous SR-71 aircraft plane a friend. I got know Col. Harlan Hain (RIP) when we competed in the 1992 Around the World Air Race. He was one of the most fascinating pilots I’ve had the pleasure of knowing!
The data plate has Bob Gilliand's signature and interesting facts of the SR-71Blackbird aircraft such as powerplant type, range, etc., and a certificate of authenticity is included. Please select frame type when ordering from the drop down menu.
