This Bell X-1 airplane is a replica scale model of the original aircraft produced by Bell Aircraft. The Bell X-1 is a rocket engine-powered aircraft, and the first aircraft to experience controlled level supersonic flight. Piloted by Chuck Yeager, the X-1 reached a speed of almost a 1,000 mph. It was often referred to as the “bullet on wings,” because the fuselage shape looked similar to a Browning .50 caliber machine gun bullet.
The Bell X-1 model aircraft is an authentic, extraordinary replica of the original aircraft that has been faithfully reproduced with kiln dried Philippine mahogany wood. Each model is meticulously carved, hand sanded and painted following exact blueprint details of the original aircraft. The result is a handsome, wood airplane sculpture to be admired and enjoyed. It also arrives with an attractive wood base for display.
