TWA had a large fleet of MD-80 jets and the MD-80 twin jet was one of the most successful commercial aircraft in aviation history. In fact, TWA took the last production model of the McDonnell Douglas aircraft on December 23,1999. The was a ceremony at the Boeing plant with about 1,000 employees and guests as the last MD-80 rolled off the production line. Overall, 1,191 MD-80s were manufactured and over 1,180 are still in service today in over 50 airlines around the world.
