The Gunfighter Mustang was assigned to the Mighty Eighth" Air Force in March of 1945 in the UK. As WW II was winding down the aircraft did not see a lot of action and it was assigned back to the U.S. For the next 9 years the aircraft served as an Air National Guard airplane and 1956 the Gunfighter Mustang was sold as surplus to the civilian market.
