B-25 Doolittle Raid Aviation Art Print – Limited Edition by William S. Phillips

Own a rare and historically significant piece of aviation art with this limited edition B-25 Mitchell bomber print by acclaimed artist William S. Phillips. This compelling artwork captures the 15 B-25 aircraft involved in the legendary Doolittle Raid—the bold 1942 mission where 16 U.S. Army Air Forces bombers launched from the USS Hornet to strike targets in Japan during World War II.

This specific print honors the aircraft piloted by Lt. Donald G. Smith, the 15th plane to take off from the carrier. After completing a successful bombing run over Kobe, Japan, Smith and his crew encountered rapidly deteriorating weather and were ultimately forced to ditch the aircraft. Remarkably, all 15 crew members survived the crash—an incredible feat in one of the most daring missions of the war.

Authentic Raider Signatures Included

Each print includes original hand-signed signatures from eight of Doolittle’s Raiders, adding exceptional historical and collectible value:

  • Lt. Colonel Richard E. Cole – Co-Pilot, 1st Aircraft

  • David J. Thatcher – Engineer Gunner, 7th Aircraft

  • Thomas Griffin – Navigator, 9th Aircraft

  • MSgt. Edwin Horton, Jr. – Gunner, 10th Aircraft

  • Colonel William Bowers – Pilot, 12th Aircraft

  • Lt. Colonel Edward Saylor – Engineer Gunner, 15th Aircraft

  • Maj. General David M. Jones – Pilot, 5th Aircraft

  • Charles J. Ozuk, Jr. – Crew Member, 3rd Aircraft

This print also commemorates all 80 members of the Doolittle Raid, each of whom received the Congressional Gold Medal for extraordinary bravery. The last surviving Raider, Lt. Col. Richard “Dick” Cole, passed away in 2019 at the age of 103.
