When researching information about the Space Shuttle Discovery we were surprised to find that it was named after the HMS Discovery the Royal Navy ship which launched in 1789 and was the lead ship in George Vancouver's exploration of the west coast of North America. I wonder if we charged the Brits for this honorific respect. The NASA Space Shuttle Discovery was the thrid of five fully operational orbiters to be built. Its first flight was August 30th 1984 and it continued in service for over 27 years and 39 launches. Talk about a workhorse! Its last flight was on February 24, 2011. Many of those missions helped assemble the International Space Station. Of all the Discovery missions, our favorite and the one which embodies the name discovery, was the mission on April 24, 1990 when it carried the Hubble Telescope into orbit. Mankind has discovered more from this mission probably than all previous discoveries combined. Our Discovery Space Shuttle model arrives completely assembled and has an attractive base for display. This authentic, extraordinary replica of the original spacecraft has been faithfully reproduced. Each model is meticulously crafted and painted following exact blueprint details of the original spacecraft. The end result is a handsome, collectible keepsake to be admired and enjoyed.
