The Rutan Model 76 Voyager was the first aircraft to circumnavigate the world without stopping or refueling. Leaving the Mojave Desert on Dec. 14, 1986 from Edwards Air Force Base in returned 9 days, 3 minutes and 44 seconds later on Dec. 23. This set a flight endurance record. The Voyager flew 26,366 miles at an average altitude of 11,000 feet. Voyager was designed by Dick's brother Burt Rutan made of fiberglass, carbon fiber and Kevlar and weighed 939 pounds.
